Shantan Wantan Ichiban '1993' (Remix)
If you live in Sydney, chances are you’ve danced to the sounds of SHANTAN WANTAN ICHIBAN at some point in your hazy, filthy nightlife history. The local legend has been simultaneously throwing parties and throwing down at events like Dutty Dancing and the Player Haters Ball, along with club slots at The Ivy and Hudson Ballroom (fka Goodgod Small Club) and major festivals like Splendour in the Grass. As if that wasn’t enough, Ichiban also takes the reigns of The Kick On on Triple J. So I guess you can say the man knows what gets people moving.
Ichiban has now joined forces with acclaimed DJ/producer/party-starter Jayteehazard for an amped up version of Paces’ 1993 (No Chill) feat. Jess Kent. The once tropical track now takes a harder club-appropriate approach, with a darker bassline and a little help from Melbourne dancehall pro Yaw Faso. Whilst lashings of Jess Kent’s original vocals still swirl around, it’s Faso’s verses that leave nothing behind in this rework.
Although Ichiban and Jayteehazard have completely transformed ‘1993 (No Chill)’ from a bouncy summery number to a cooler streamlined version, it’s still undoubtedly good. How good you ask? So good that Paces himself has been repping this remix in his live sets all over the country since Splendour in the Grass back in July! So it’s only a matter of time before you’ll be hearing this anthem back on the festival circuit this summer
